Summer Intensive — Studying in New York

New York, New York, USA
July 7 – August 2, 2015

At 3:50am on July 7, 2013 the alarm went off and I made my way to the airport. I left my home in Canada and flew to New York to study interaction design at the School of visual arts. This was the view from my room.

The workspace at SVA was open and comfortable and the summer program gathered people from all over the world. There were three other Canadians, two people from India, a few from South America and someone who came all the way from Australia.

I didn't do much shopping but I did buy a yard of Marimekko's Unikko pattern to add some colour to my room.

I spent one night walking around Times Square in the rain. Umbrella salespeople descend upon the square.

Central Park was wonderful. I couldn't get much of a signal on my phone and I wondered if it was by design. It picks you up out of the city and refreshes you.

Halfway through my trip my brother and aunt came to visit. We explored together, either taking the train or walking everywhere.

Fireworks from Coney Island.

It wasn't long after my aunt and brother left that my girlfriend arrived.

The glow from Times Square.

Returning home.
